CRYOPRESERVATION is a process where cells, tissues, are preserved by cooling to very low temperatures to −196 °C using liquid nitrogen for future use. There are 3 types of Cryopreservation in IVF spectrum:
1. Embryos freezing
2. Sperm Cryopreservation
3. Eggs
Cryopreservation Survival rate (70%) of thawed embryos depends on their quality before freezing. Most of the time, survival rates of embryos will decrease after thawing. The duration of storage in liquid nitrogen will not affect the post-thawed embryos survival rates. Cryopreservation does not cause damages to the embryos during storage phase but it occurs during the freezing and thawing phase.
